FOLLOWING concerns raised by residents and councillors, Burbage Parish Council has decided to take a proactive role in organising next year's Christmas in Burbage event.

The popular family outing offering late shopping and entertainment in Windsor Street and Church Street will be bigger, better and safer.

Parish council leader Cllr Stan Rooney said: "Business leaders in Burbage had agreed to organise their own event this year. But without a road closure in operation and lacking enough suitable marshals, there were a number of close calls between pedestrians and moving traffic.

"We will now work with shop and business owners to make sure that next year our community can enjoy a fun night and a safe night when the festive lights are switched on."
