First Scarecrow Festival hailed a success

Organisers of the first Burbage Scarecrow Festival, held during the May bank holiday weekend, say the event was a 'wonderful' success.

Dozens of villagers, including schoolchildren and business people, entered home-made scarecrows which were displayed for visitors to view and to vote for their favourites.

Organised by Grove Road Schools' PTFA, the event raised money for Burbage CE Infant School and Burbage Junior School.

PTFA secretary Rachael Millward said: "It was a wonderful event and successfully bought the community closer together.

"The PTFA has had wonderful feedback from Burbage locals and visitors to the Festival about how much they enjoyed it.

"Local businesses and Churches that were open supporting the event have said they had an amazing weekend."

Plans are already under way for a second Scarecrow Festival during the 2020 May Day bank holiday weekend, May 2, 3 and 4.
