X-ray facilities to return to Hinckley

Health chiefs have confirmed that x-ray facilities will be returned to Hinckley.

West Leicestershire Clinical Commissioning Group has confirmed that funding can be provided through the University Hospitals of Leicester capital expenditure programme.

Earlier this month Hinckley & Bosworth Borough Council offered to loan the CCG the funds or lease equipment in order to help to return the key facility to the town as soon as possible.

The move came after councillors expressed their concerns about the closure of the x-ray facility at Hinckley Hospital, for safety reasons in September, which means that borough residents must now travel to Coalville or into Leicester City for x-ray services.

A spokesperson for West Leicestershire CCG said: "We now need to go through a short process of planning and approval through the CCG Board and with other partners.

"This will give us the timetable for undertaking the necessary internal building works and installing the x-ray and equipment, which we can then inform the public of.

"We are committed to continuing to update people on our plans and further briefings will follow."

Borough Councillor Stuart Bray said: "I am delighted to hear that funding for this key facility has been secured.

"I'm grateful to our colleagues at West Leicestershire CCG, the University Hospitals of Leicester and the Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland Alliance who provide planned care services at Hinckley and District Hospital for their work in bringing about a solution to this difficult issue.

"This is a key facility for local residents which all of us were keen to reinstate in Hinckley as soon as practically possible."
