Burbage policing update

Burbage policing update

In the early hours of the morning on Tuesday 12th October we received a call at around 04:25 regarding two suspicious persons shining torches into property/vehicles around Robinson Way. Officers attended and completed an area search, no one found in the area.

I have also been notified that around 22:15 on the Monday night, a couple of suspicious persons were seen around Wellbeck Avenue. They knocked on the door and asked to use some jump leads for their vehicle. When the resident tried to help, the suspicious male left the scene. This may have been a way to find out if the resident was at home.

We have since received a report of a residential burglary on Higham way that has occurred between 17:30-08:00 on the 11th/12th October. No one was at home. Entrance was gained via the side/front door with force. It is unknown what was taken at this point. Crime number 21000592982 if you have any information.

Please remember we are going into the "darker nights" and criminals will target homes that may look unoccupied or easy targets. I will arrange a crime prevention event over the coming weeks but please take 5 to consider your home security. Hide jewellery and cash. Do you have RFID wallets if your vehicle is keyless. Leave a light on (light timers). There are small things you can do to avoid these opportunistic criminals. Please report suspicious behaviour immediately to 101 (non-emergency) or 999 (emergency). I will send out our crime prevention catalogue over the coming weeks but please look into window alarms, light timers, CCTV stickers, and padlock alarms.

There have been two reports of damage to motor vehicles (scratches and smashed window) on East Close over recent days. If you have any information as to who may be involved please get in touch.

Amazon scam phone call from resident

"I Received a call from 'Amazon' a few moments ago asking if we wanted to continue with our Amazon Prime plan. I believe that this is a new kind of call. When I asked if it was my plan or my wife's plan she wished to discuss she said it was mine. As I don't have an AmazonPrime plan -truly don't - I ended the call. Obviously the caller doesn't have a clue as to whether or not the recipients of the call have even heard of Amazon."

Patrols over the last few days include the Train station area (East close), Higham Way, Dorchester Road and three pots areas.

We have continued our work around parking at school time and visited some residents with advice. We are also working with the schools to see what more can be done.

If you have any free time and are passionate about road safety, please take a look at this link. I noticed a lot of really great signage on lampposts in my area and wondered how they got them. After doing some digging, it was through community speed watch. Take a look and get in touch if you want to get involved.
